Traveling with only a 28mm lens (FX equivalent of about 22mm) is great for capturing architecture and streetscapes, but it's a bit shorter than I'm used to. So the wallet came out for a Hasselblad XCD 3.4 75P at Map Camera for a decent price (thanks, strong exchange rate and no sales tax). It's still a bit shorter than I'd like (FX equivalent of about 59mm), but close to the 58mm of one of my favorites, the Nikon 58mm f/1.4.
I haven't had much opportunity to use it, but I did take it for a spin for a few hours at CarnavalSF. AF is no faster than the 28P, and IQ seems to be the same. I very much like the photos I got with the 75P and X2D. The colors are vibrant, and the skin tones look realistic. Sharpness is more than enough. I'm still struggling with not having continuous AF though, and missed a few photos because of this.
I also tried flash with a few images, but I'm not too happy with the results; I still got dead eyes as the sun moved higher up in the sky. With a leaf shutter in the lens, I should probably have pushed the shutter speed higher, and let the flash take over, instead of using it for fill. I'll save that for the next event.
I don't know if I'll go longer than 75mm. The 90mm V is more money than I care to spend, and anything longer is too big and heavy. The advantage of 100MP is the ability to crop, so that will have to do.
And now for some photos.
